Secretary Salazar to Discuss First Phase of Early Restoration Projects in Louisiana; Announce Results of Western Gulf Lease Sale

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today will be in New Orleans to mark a major milestone in jumpstarting restoration of the Gulf region after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Today the Natural Resource Damage Assessment Trustees announced the draft first phase of early restoration projects – including two projects totaling over $28 million for Louisiana - as part of an agreement with BP to fund $1 billion in early restoration projects.
At 11am CST, Salazar will visit the P&J Oyster Company located in the French Quarter where he will discuss the projects and initial steps in the ongoing interagency work to restore the region’s natural resources that were injured by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
During the press conference, Secretary Salazar will also announce the results of the Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 218, the first offshore oil and gas lease sale since Deepwater Horizon and part of President Obama’s goal of expanding safe and responsible domestic energy production.
