On Thursday, December 10, 2009, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will deliver the keynote address entitled “New Energy Future: The Role of Public Lands in Clean Energy Production and Carbon Capture” at the UN Conference on Climate Change. The event will take place at 12:45 p.m. local time in the meeting room of the U.S. Center, located in Hall C5 at the Bella Center in Copenhagen. There will be a dedicated entrance for press. The event will include remarks followed by Q & A for non-press audience members only. Secretary Salazar will hold a media availability following the event.
Event Description: Secretary Salazar is transforming the way we manage our public lands to harness their massive potential for renewable energy production and for capturing carbon. Under his leadership the Department of the Interior has prioritized the rapid and responsible development of large-scale renewable energy projects on public lands and oceans. Secretary Salazar will discuss the U.S.'s first-ever framework for offshore wind development; the progress of solar, wind, and other renewable energy projects on public lands; Interior's strategy for responding to the impacts of climate change on land, water, and wildlife; the role of public lands in capturing and storing carbon; and other initiatives that the Obama Administration has undertaken.
